Hollow Knight: Silksong is a 2D Metroidvania action-adventure game developed and published by Team Cherry. A sequel to Hollow Knight, the game follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, after she is captured and taken to the mysterious kingdom of Pharloom. Instead of descending into a ruined underground kingdom like the first game, Silksong is built around climbing upward through a haunted land ruled by silk and song. The game released on September 4, 2025.

World & Premise

Silksong takes players to Pharloom, a new kingdom filled with strange bugs, pilgrims, hostile creatures, ancient ruins, towns, and towering citadels. Hornet’s journey is both an escape and a mystery: she must survive the kingdom’s dangers while uncovering why she was brought there and what connects her to this land. The setting keeps the dark, lonely atmosphere of Hollow Knight but gives it a faster, more vertical sense of movement and progression.

Combat & Movement

The biggest difference from the original Hollow Knight is Hornet herself. She is faster, more agile, and more acrobatic than the Knight, using her needle, silk-based abilities, tools, and aerial movement to fight enemies. Combat is still difficult and timing-focused, but Silksong feels more mobile, with quicker attacks, sharper platforming, and more aggressive enemy encounters. Xbox’s official page describes the game around acrobatic action, powerful moves, silken abilities, and crafted tools.

Exploration & Challenge

Like the first game, Silksong is built around exploration, backtracking, hidden paths, secrets, bosses, and gradual ability unlocks. The world is handcrafted in a detailed 2D style, with areas such as mossy grottos, coral forests, misted moors, gilded cities, and shining citadels. The game also emphasizes challenge, with more than 200 enemies listed on the Xbox page, making difficulty and mastery a major part of the experience.
