Mario Kart World
Mario Kart World is a kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch 2. It expands the classic Mario Kart formula with a connected world where courses are linked by roads, highways, cities, deserts, forests, mountains, and other open routes. Instead of feeling like separate tracks only, the game presents the whole world as part of the race, with up to 24 racers competing at once. It released on June 5, 2025.
Connected World
The biggest new idea in Mario Kart World is its connected map. Players can race from one course to another through roads that span the world, with shifting weather and a day/night cycle. This makes it feel more like a road trip version of Mario Kart, where the space between courses matters instead of just the tracks themselves.
Modes
Mario Kart World includes classic and new ways to play. Grand Prix has players compete across four connected courses, while Knockout Tour is an elimination-style mode where racers are removed at checkpoints if they do not place high enough. The game also includes Battle modes like Balloon Battle and Coin Runners, plus Free Roam, where players can explore the world at their own pace.
Racing Mechanics
The game keeps the chaotic item-based racing Mario Kart is known for, but adds new movement options. Players can ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and use new techniques to move through tracks and open routes in more creative ways. These mechanics make the racing feel more active and give players more ways to recover, shortcut, or style through a course.
Multiplayer & Social Play
Mario Kart World supports local and online multiplayer, with 1–4 players on one system, 2–8 players through local wireless, and 2–24 players online. It also supports online play through Nintendo Switch Online and includes GameChat features for talking with friends while racing or roaming together.
