Heroes & Roles

The heart of Overwatch is its hero roster. Each character belongs to a broad role: Tank, Damage, or Support. Tanks create space and lead fights, Damage heroes focus on eliminations and pressure, and Supports keep allies alive while adding utility. The game is especially known for how different each hero feels, from traditional FPS-style characters to more ability-heavy heroes with movement, shields, healing, summons, traps, or crowd-control tools.

Gameplay & Modes

Overwatch 2 is primarily an objective-based PvP shooter. Matches are built around team fights, map control, payload pushing, point capture, and coordinated ability use. Common modes include Control, Escort, Hybrid, Push, and Flashpoint, with Blizzard also rotating limited-time Arcade, event, and experimental modes.

Live Service & Progression

Overwatch 2 is designed as a live-service game, meaning it receives ongoing seasons, balance patches, new heroes, maps, cosmetics, events, and limited-time collaborations. Progression is built around player accounts, cosmetics, challenges, seasonal rewards, and competitive ranks rather than traditional single-player leveling.

Competitive & Esports

Competitive play is a major part of Overwatch’s identity. Players climb ranked tiers by winning matches and improving their performance across different roles. On the esports side, Blizzard now supports the Overwatch Champions Series, an open competitive ecosystem that replaced the older Overwatch League structure and gives teams across multiple regions a path into major international events.
