How to Get the Shade Cloak in Hollow Knight

What Shade Cloak Does

Shade Cloak is an upgrade to your dash. It lets you dash through enemies, some attacks, and black Shade Gates.

This is one of the most important late-game abilities because it opens new paths and makes many fights easier.

Get King’s Brand First

Before you can get Shade Cloak, you need King’s Brand. This is found in Kingdom’s Edge after defeating Hornet for the second time.

Once you beat Hornet, continue forward and collect King’s Brand. This item lets you open the door to The Abyss.

Go to Ancient Basin

After getting King’s Brand, travel to Ancient Basin. Go to the very bottom of the area, where you will find a large sealed door.

If you have King’s Brand, the door will open and let you enter The Abyss.

Find the Lighthouse in The Abyss

Inside The Abyss, keep moving downward until you reach the sea of Void. Before crossing it, go to the left side and climb up to the lighthouse.

Turn on the lighthouse to calm the Void Tendrils in the area. This makes it safe to continue across the Void sea.

Get Shade Cloak

After activating the lighthouse, head to the far right side of The Abyss. Keep going until you reach a room with a large bowl of Void.

Stand in the bowl, and the Knight will absorb the Void to unlock Shade Cloak.

Once you have it, you can use your dash to pass through Shade Gates and avoid damage from many enemy attacks.
