How to Unlock Characters in Mario Kart World

Unlock Characters From Grand Prix Cups

The main unlockable characters come from completing Grand Prix cups. You do not need to win every race, but you do need to finish the cup.

These are the main cup unlocks:

• Mushroom Cup unlocks Donkey Kong.

• Flower Cup unlocks Daisy.

• Star Cup unlocks Rosalina.

• Shell Cup unlocks Lakitu.

• Banana Cup unlocks Birdo.

• Leaf Cup unlocks King Boo.

• Lightning Cup unlocks Bowser Jr.

Unlock NPC Characters

Some characters are unlocked by transforming into them during races or Free Roam. These include characters like Cataquack, Chargin’ Chuck, Coin Coffer, Conkdor, Dolphin, Fish Bone, Peepa, Pianta, Rocky Wrench, Spike, and Swoop.

The easiest updated method is to use UFOs in Free Roam. When you enter a UFO, use it to pull in the NPC character you want. After transforming into that character, they should unlock for your roster.

Use Kamek in Races

Kamek can also unlock NPC characters. When the Kamek item is used, racers ahead of the user can be transformed into NPC characters.

This method is more random, but it still works. If you want to make it easier, use VS Race with Custom Items and set Kamek as the main item. This gives you more chances to transform into the characters you still need.

Outfits Are Separate

Character outfits are unlocked differently from characters. You usually get outfits by finding Dash Food while playing as that character.

If you only want to unlock the main roster, focus on Grand Prix cups, UFOs, and Kamek first. After that, you can start collecting outfits for your favorite racers.

Fastest Way to Unlock Everyone

Start by finishing all Grand Prix cups to unlock the main characters.

After that, go into Free Roam and use UFOs to unlock NPC characters. If you are still missing some, use VS Race with Custom Items and farm Kamek transformations.

This is much faster than only waiting for random Kamek items during normal races.
