Genshin Impact Review

Welcome to Teyvat

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world action RPG following the Traveler, a wanderer searching across the fantasy world of Teyvat for a lost sibling. Each of its nations — Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan — has its own culture, element, and Archon.

Elemental Combat

Combat revolves around four-character parties and elemental reactions: Vaporize, Melt, Overload, and more, triggered by swapping characters mid-fight. Layered on top is a deep Artifact and weapon system that gives end-game team-building real depth.

Exploring the World

Exploration is a genuine joy, gated by a stamina meter for climbing and gliding and dotted with puzzles, hidden chests, and collectibles. Each region is gorgeous and distinct, with its own music and identity.

Story and Characters

The Archon quests have grown more ambitious over time, supported by personal story quests for a huge, charismatic roster of collectable characters.

The Gacha Catch

The catch is the monetisation. New characters and weapons come from randomised Wishes with a pity system, and chasing the flashiest units can get expensive. The day-to-day grind of dailies and resin caps the pace.

Endgame Repetition

Beyond the Spiral Abyss, long-term players will feel the endgame lean heavily on repetition and resource farming.

Verdict

Genshin Impact remains a remarkably generous and polished adventure. If you can resist the gacha pull, there’s an enormous, beautiful world here to enjoy entirely for free.

Pros

Beautiful, expansive open world

Fun elemental combat

Constant free content updates

Generous for a free game

Cons

Gacha monetisation and grind

Endgame can feel repetitive
